An Overdue Return To The Caribbean

For the first time in years, the Eat Club returns to the Port of New Orleans for a Carnival season cruise. It's seven days in the warm Caribbean, getting you out of the cold weather with some highly sociable people who love to dine, wine, and enjoy life as much as you do.

The Norwegian Spirit is different from most cruise ships you've traveled. Instead of rounding up everybody into a single mammoth dining room for dinner, they have eleven different restaurants to choose from. The specialties range from steak to Italian to Japanese. Our group will make the rounds of the best of them throughout the cruise. After, of course, a gathering of Tom's Pre-Dinner Martini Club, which convenes every evening before dinner. Let me buy the first round.

We let each person decide his or her own plans, but we offer the opportunity to join the group for lunches in the ports, wine tastings on the ship, and other activities. Traveling with a group is infinitely more fun than cruising alone. You'll see.

A week or two before the cruise, we'll get together for dinner to meet one another and answer any questions you may have about the cruise.

The itinerary includes full days in four ports on the Yucatan peninsula, with its beaches and historic Mayan sites. And it gets you back in town in time for the big parades on the Sunday before Mardi Gras, and Carnival itself.

The best part about sailing from New Orleans for locals is that you can pull your car right into a parking lot, roll up the gangplank into the ship, and head straight for your stateroom. (Then the buffet, or the bar, or the pool.) No flights. . . no airports. . . no headaches. If you don't live in New Orleans, this cruise offers the opportunity to enjoy the peak of Mardi Gras and the cruise in the same trip.

Often-Asked Questions About Our Cruises

Do I have to be a member of the Eat Club to go on this cruise? What is the Eat Club, anyway?

The Eat Club is a loose association of people who listen to my radio shows and read my daily New Orleans Menu newsletter. It's not really a club. It's open to everyone. For over fourteen years, we've had wine dinners in New Orleans restaurants almost every week. And gone on cruises. This will be our fifteenth.

Will I be a stranger among friends?

Maybe for about ten minutes. Most of our cruisers don't know one another well, but after a drink and a dinner together we quickly become buddies. Many of our former cruisers and diners who didn't know one another before joining us now hang out together.

Must I do everything with the group, or can I make my own plans for touring, dinners, etc?

Absolutely everything on our cruises is optional. You are always free to do whatever you like, all the time. And you're always welcome in any group activity.

I noticed that the fares on the Norwegian web site are lower than yours. What's the deal there? If I make my own reservations, can I hang with the Eat Club anyway?

The fares on the web probably don't include port charges, fuel surcharges, and the like. We also build in a number of extras for the group. If there's a difference in the final amounts, it's very small. Please understand that if you don't book with our group, we don't get the amenities the ship allows group members. So we can't give them to you. You must book with us to join us.

If you have other questions, please click here to ask them.

I hope you do join us! This will be our fifteenth cruise, and we always have a real ball every time!

Tastefully yours,
Tom Fitzmorris
