"Churros" are a
unique treat from Cuba and Central America. They're like beignets in a
way--but different. They're extruded into tubes directly into the
fryer, and emerge golden brown and hot, to be enjoyed with sugar,
cinnaon, and honey. Great with coffee for dessert or a snack. Churros
Cafe also serves up a full menu of Cuban specialties, including the
famous Cuban pressed, grilled sandwiches, and terrific homestyle daily
specials at very low prices. The only challenge is finding it the
first time. It's a block off Veterans, on Kingma, near Clearview Mall. Menu Updated May 2008. In the best sense of the term, a mixture of ethnic cultures and styles--French, Spanish, Creole, African-American and Italian. From the way we live and conduct business, to the way we celebrate, ours is a unique blend of the different cultures that have come together in the Crescent City. One of our greatest claims to fame is our food, which like the rest of our culture and traditions, is a combination of the various people who settled in this area. The French left us their fine croissants, as well the famous beignets and French bread, from which the great Po-Boy. The Cajuns have given us their spicy cooking, the Italians left us their delicious muffulettas. And we must not forget our famous Creole cuisine, which combined the best Spanish and French cooking to create exquisite recipes. Now to this wondrous list of culinary delights, add the greatest item to hit the city since the creation of beignets. The CHURROS has arrived from Spain. Ole!! Unique, delicious, and here to stay! |
