| The New Orleans Menu Daily Originally published May 12, 2006 The Best Mother's Day Restaurants If you must dine out on Mother's Day (and it's not a great idea), here are some ideas and strategies. 1. Your mother’s favorite restaurant, even if it’s a joint, and even if you don’t like it yourself. 2. A new place that’s a lot like your mother’s favorite restaurant. 3. The restaurant you’ve heard your mother talking about with interest. 4. The restaurant that does the best version of your mother’s favorite dish. 5. A restaurant with great food and service at a surprisingly low price (if your mother gets pleasure out of saving a buck). 6. A really expensive, luxurious restaurant (if your mother gets a thrill from that). 7. A restaurant nobody knows is open, because they aren't usually open on Sunday. Broussard's, for example. (Late flash: they're booked up.) 8. Andrea’s, but only for the first reservation. Chef Andrea makes such a fuss over motherhood that any mom would be flattered and charmed. Later, his restaurant usually descends into chaos because of overbooking. 9. Galatoire’s, if you can arrange to have one of her sons or daughters wait for the table and call on the cell when he or she is nearing the front. 10. A brunch buffet, if a whole bunch of people are joining Mom. (Specific recommendations: Begue's, the Inter-Continental, the Court of Two Sisters, the Rib Room). (Late flash: They're all booked.) © 2006 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
