By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published April 11, 2008 Tuesday, April 15; Beef Wellington, Sole Veronique Alexander Valley Wine Dinner At Brennan's The Wetzel family bought a bunch of prune orchards in Sonoma in the 1960s, and over the years turned them into vineyards making distinguished wines. They're coming to town for a wine dinner at Brennan's on Tax Day (but yours are done already, right?). The menu is a departure for Brennan's in that it features almost nothing off their regular menu. In the center of it are two classic dishes we haven't seen much in the past decade or so. Sole veronique is topped with hollandaise and a few white grapes, and then glazed under the broiler. Great dish. Beef Wellington is a bit more familiar. That's a whole tenderloin of beef wrapped in pastry with foie gras and the truffle-scented Perigourdine sauce. The dinner is begins at seven. They don't say which room, but my guess would be the wine room, where we have our Eat Club dinners, at the corner of the courtyard. The price is $125, inclusive of tax and tip. That's at the upper range, but these are seriously good wines, including the winery's allocated Cyrus proprietary red. Here's the winery's website for more information about Alexander Valley Estate and the wines.
