Former La Petite Grocery Chef Opens
Bistro Daisy On Magazine Street

Chef Anton Schulte, who with his wife Diane managed La Petite Grocery from its opening in 2004 until a few months ago, is back in the kitchen.

Chef Anton's Bistro Daisy is in the renovated Magazine Street cottage that formerly houses Ristorante Civello. The menu is totally different, embracing French-inspired food along the same lines that Anton cooked at the Grocery and, before that, at Peristyle.

The Schultes left La Petite Grocery some months ago after a difference of style arose between them and Chef Joel Dondis, the majority owner of the place.

Ristorante Civello, which had attracted some attention for its New Orleans-Italian menu and singing wait staff, closed in the spring. Owner Russell Civello said that there wasn't enough business to go around to make it through the summer. My own estimation of the problem is that parking was the main problem. The restaurant is just off Nashville Avenue on that narrow section of Magazine Street without curbside parking. That required customers to park at least a block away--enough of a deterrent to influence decisions in the direction of the many other restaurants in the vicinity.

However, Anton's food and sophisticated style may well be enough of a magnet to get around that issue. I hope so.

The restaurant serves dinner only, Tuesdays through Saturdays. Bistro Daisy brought to 850 the number of restaurants currently open in the New Orleans area.
