Brennan's In Houston Burns To Ground

Brennan's Restaurant in Houston caught fire shortly after midninght last night, in the middle of Hurricane Ike's advance on the city. Firefighters, who were overwhelmed with fire calls, were unable to get to the restaurant before the fire involved the entire building.

The entire building was destroyed in the high winds.

Brennan's is in downtown Houston, in a historic building that was designed by the same architect who built Brennan's on Royal Street. That's a coincidence, because both buildings had been around a long time before either Brennan's was in existence.

Brennan's in Houston is owned by Alex Brennan-Martin, the son of Ella Brennan. It's allied with the Commander's Palace-Dickie Brennan-Ralph Brennan-Mr. B's side of the family. It has no association with Brennan's on Royal Street in New Orleans.

No word on what the future of Brennan's in Houston will be. But it was a highly successful establishment for forty years, and I would be very surprised if it were not rebuilt as soon as possible.
