Archived Article By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published July 9, 2008 Danny Trace Is Chef Commander's Palace Opens In Destin The third location of Commander's Palace (the second was in Las Vegas, and you know where the first one is) premieres Wednesday, July 9 in the Harbor Walk Village, an upscale development in Destin, Florida. It's a logical place for the famous haute-Creole restaurant. New Orleanians have made Destin a favorite place to hang out on the beach and in the blue water for decades. And the swells of people who come down from Atlanta, Birmingham, and other major southeastern cities has transformed the once-sparse strands into a full-fledged resort capital. Chef Danny Trace, who took over Cafe Adelaide's kitchen after the hurricane and made the place great, is heading up the culinary team at the Destin Commander's. Cousins Lally Brennan (John's daughter, Ralph's sister) and Ti Martin (Ella's daughter) own the restaurant, as they do Commander's and Cafe Adelaide. They say that the menu will be a mix of Commander's Creole classics, some adventuresome inventions, and "Floribbean" cuisine. The latter is the buzzword throughout Florida these days, and I'll let you know what it means if I can figure it out. (Seems like Creole food with coconuts to me.)
