By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published October 8, 2007 Brunchtime October 14 Feast With The Stars For a whole bunch of autumns, Parkway Partners has organized a delighful Sunday brunch as a fundraiser for its efforts to replant and beautify the city's streetsides, neutral grounds, and small parks. It hardly needs to be said that we need more of that these days than we did two years ago--but it was urgent even then. The event is called Feast With The Stars, and it has a number of distinctions over its more than a decade in business. The food has traditionally been provided by big hotel kitchens. (Although K-Paul's, Bayona, and some other big restaurant names will be there.) The people who serve you are well-known folks from many endeavors, but media people predominate--lots of television folks. I have been part of the program for eleven years running, but I'm at the low end of that totem pole. Some of the stars decorate birdhouses, which are then auctioned off, along with many other collectables, dinners, and other goodies. A jazz band plays throughout the whole party. The Feast With The Stars is in Gallier Hall, which sets up well for things like this. Lots of tables at which to sit and eat. (And drink: the price includes an open bar.) On your way out, you can pick up a complimentary plant or two for your garden, from the greenhouses of the Parkway and Parks Commission. The Feast With The Stars this year is Sunday, October 14, 11:30 a.m. till 2 p.m. The price is $75; they also have whole tables for groups at special prices. More information can be had from their incredibly garish website, which doesn't have a link to the page where you buy tickets. Click here for tickets. And I'll see you there. This is always a fun event. © 2007 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
