The explosion in the number of coffeehouses around town is such that only a caffeine-crazed, compulsive cataloguer could perform the necessary investigations to flesh out this category in full. Your scribe begs off that job. However, New Orleans has a long history of its unique versions of such places. And some cafes specializing in dessert and coffee are distinctive enough that they beg for coverage. These are those.
That said, it's clear that full-scale restaurants perform much better work with desserts than all but a small number of these specialists. I'm often asked which restaurants would permit one to come in and have just dessert. The cold truth is that the major ones don't like this idea at all, and that's reason enough not to follow that strategy. You might get away with it if you show up late in the evening and are willing to accept secondary service. (Such as at that bar.)
