Arnaud's Jazz Bistro Returns

The dining room formerly known (a long time ago) as the Richelieu Room at Arnaud's is back to what it had been before the storm: a place to dine and listen to traditional New Orleans jazz at the same time.

The Jazz Bistro is right on the corner of Bourbon and Bienville. It's always been my favorite of Arnaud's many rooms--its tile floors are the most ornate and colorful in the restaurant. The jazz is provided by a jazz trio whos members fluctuate from night to night. They play the standards--the kind of stuff you'd hear at Preservation Hall--in an unamplified tone low enough that you can hear yourself talk. It's very nice, and it will remind you why that music became famous.

They tack on an extra four dollars to each person's dinner for sitting in there, which is less than I tip most musicians I encounter in restaurants. The menu is the same as in the main room, including a $39.50 three-course table d'hote dinner option. The Jazz Bistro, like the restaurant, is open for dinner every night. The jazz moves into strolling mode at Sunday brunch, which for my money is the best in town right now.
