Bozo's opened Tuesday, January 10. That answers a question I've been asked hundreds of times by readers. Bernie Vodonovich told me that they'd prefer that you take your time about getting there, because they don't have all the pieces in place just yet. Her husband is Chris "Little Bozo" Vodonovich, whose parents opened the place in 1925, right before Chris was born. He still does the lion's share of the cooking at the fantastic fried seafood and oyster specialist, where everything is fried in a separate utensil (and different kinds, too). The catfish is small and wild--a rarity these days, and much better than farm-raised. The oyster bar is always first-class, and the gumbo is unique and incredible. But give them a few days. Enough enthusiasts will go there to keep it busy. It's open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, with hours extending later. 3117 21st Street, 831-8666.
