By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published December 2, 2005 Click here for the current edition Cafe Adelaide Open; Commander's In March--Maybe Ti Martin, who owns Commander's Palace with her cousins Lally Brennan, checked in today with some good news: Cafe Adelaide, their restaurant in the Loews Hotel on Poydras, is back in business. It's a funny schedule, but it would be funnier if it weren't. They have lunch Tuesdays through Thursdays, dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays, and a bar menu all day every day. Cafe Adelaide will also have a new chef. Danny Trace, who's been part of the sous chef brigade at Commander's Palace for ten years, is in charge of the kitchen. Kevin Vizard, who opened the restaurant a year or so ago, has left to open his own place. (I will find out about that and report later.) They got the place going in time for Thanksgiving, but kept in quiet. I tried to persuade Ti to open for Sunday brunch--there's almost nobody serving that meal--but she said the staffing problem disallows that. (How about closing Tuesday night and opening Sunday?) Her news about Commander's Palace jibes with what we have been reporting here. Namely, that roof damage allowed water to infiltrate walls and floors, and that everything had to be ripped out everywhere. "We don't know how long it will take," she said. "March. April. We're meeting the insurance people tomorrow." © 2005 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
