By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published January 25, 2008 On Metairie Road, In Former Chez Daniel Chateau Du Lac Reopens Chateau Du Lac, which celebrated its third anniversary earlier this week, reopened in a new location this week. It's in a space on Metairie Road that was the home of a number of past restaurants. Jacques and Paige Saleun clsoed their original Kenner location back in the fall, and at the time told their customers where they'd turn up next. Since the new location has long been a restaurant, none of us figured it would take this long to get back to Chef Jacques's food, and wondered why they're still not back. I found out. This will not be the raffish premises formerly the home of Chez Daniel, Vaqueros and Odyssey Grill, but a much-renovated and handsome bistro. My wife stopped in a few days ago and reported that she can't wait to dine there--because she liked the way the new restaurant looked so much. (She's an atmosphere junkie more than a foodie.) The menu will retain the same French classicism, at the bistro level. Since my first meals at Chateau Du Lac, I've made a comparison between their food and that of the original Crozier's: simple, straightforaward, but very, very good, at moderate prices. All that will return, the Seleuns tell me. In an earlier story, we said that the opening would be tomorrow, January 22. But they changed their minds about that. Friday seems to be firm. Dinner only at first, with lunch later. You know how that goes. Chateau Du Lac. 2037 Metairie Rd. 831-3773. © 2008 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
