It's not in the old building--that's in the wet zone, and there's much left to be repaired. But owner John Blanchard had a building on the other side of the parking lot that was moving toward completion at storm time, and he's opening the College Inn there. "Everything's new, except for a few pieces of equipment we moved over from the old building," he told me. "We'll open four till ten Tuesdays through Saturdays for now, with the most popular dishes. Oyster and shrimp poor boys, hamburger poor boys, shrimp remoulade, chicken fried steak, grilled fish, and a few other things. We'll add as we go." I love seeing restaurants reopen in the deep-flood zone. We've had very few come back yet, but each one says that we're really starting to make some progress. The return of the College Inn is worth celebrating. © 2006 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
