By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published August 3, 2007 Commander's Palace To Open In Destin A branch of Commander's Palace will open in 2008, in a new, expensive development called Harbor Walk Village in Destin Harbor. That's pretty close to the center of Destin, Florida, whose harbor has long been a beehive of yachts and yachteres from up and down the Gulf Coast. Destin is one of the favorite destinations of New Orleanians with a taste for blue-water, white-sand beaches. So the Commander's Palace name will ring a bell for a lot of people there. Harbor Walk Village seems to be planned as another of the retro-style, high-end resorts that have dominated development along the Florda Gulf Coast in recent years. In addition to a few hundred condos, a collection of shops and cafes is planned, with Commander's as the anchor of the eateries. It will be a substantial restaurant, taking in over 8000 square feet. That's not as big as the original Commander's Palace in the Garden District--which, fear not, will remain right where it is. This is the second outlying edition of Commander's, which for some years operated a restaurant in Las Vegas. (That one closed in the past year, although it's supposed to re-open elsewhere later.) The restaurant will be owned and managed by Brennan cousins Ti Martin and Lally Brennan. No word on who the chef or general manager might be yet. © 2007 Tom Fitzmorris.
