Court Of Two Sisters Is Back
Several aspects of Tuesday's reopening of the Court of Two Sisters on Royal Street gladden my heart. First, it is largely a tourist restaurant (although I do think it's good enough that locals with a taste for traditional Creole food will find it wanting). The tourists, we keep being told, are not here. But watch the Court fill up anyway.

Second, when I first talked with owner Joe Fein about his plans, he told me he wasn't going to open until after the first of the year. Now here he is, beating even the first of December! And he did it without his former chef, Tom Weaver (a great guy who I hope returns to New Orleans at some point). That's the spirit!

The Court's popularity with tourists prevents many locals from so much as trying it. I recommend you do, for dinner. (They have a buffet at lunch every day, and it's nice, but it's a buffet.) It's a stunning restaurant with a great bar (best Sazerac in town) and a menu of well-turned-out classics. Get the gumbo, the baked oysters, the seafood, and the bread pudding. And let the old New Orleans atmosphere soak in.
