Darryl's Deli. Darryl Taylor ran a terrific poor boy shop in an old convenience store on Monroe Street in Mandeville--until the storm, which sent a very large pine tree crashing down and cutting the building in half. Darryl took awhile to find a new home, but he has: it's in the former location of another sandwich shop called A Catered Affair, in a strip mall at 2625 Florida (US 190), just past the intersection of the East Causeway Approach. It's a little hard to see, because the marquee of the strip mall is under construction and none of the signs for the shops are in place. The deli opened quietly Saturday evening, but swings into action today. The roast beef poor boys are definitive, and they make all the other kinds, too. A particular specialty is the hand-made, grilled to order hamburger. 2625 Florida, 985-727-9757.
