Archived Article By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published April 23, 2007 Deanie's In The French Quarter Reopens This happened two or three weeks ago, but it seems to have eluded everyone's notice, except for that of visitors wandering around. (And mine, when I parked my car across the street.) Before the storm, Deanie's of Bucktown had operated a very successful restaurant on the corner of Dauphine and Iberville for a couple of years. (It's where the D.H. Holmes cafeteria and deli used to be, if you have a memory that long.) The oddity was that, while it served a clientele mostly of visitors, the French Quarter Deanie's was actually much better than the Deanie's that served mostly locals in Bucktown. The fried seafood seemed to come out more reliably crisp and hot than it ever did in Bucktown--which never was one of my favorite restaurants. Certainly the French Quarter Deanie's is a nicer-looking restaurant. The restaurant was in one of the few parts of the Quarter that had street flooding, and looting probably also occurred. The owners completely rebuilt the interior of the restaurant, in work that's been going on for at least eight months. It's a good resource to have there, because it answers a question I get asked almost daily: "Where can you find boiled seafood in the French Quarter?" The answer is that there's not much of it there that I can get excited about. (The Acme is too crowded, and Ralph & Kacoo's is inconsistent.) Deanie's is the ticket for that, I'd say.
