Four thousand students from third through ninth grades will converge at the Convention Center for "Cookin' With Music," a program designed to educate and entertain at the same time. Emeril is bringing along his stove and pots; Wynton has his Jazz Septet to back him up. “Wynton and I will share our love of cooking and music with New Orleans children as they kick off the new school year,” said Lagasse. “What better way to instill pride and hope for the future than to showcase how cooking and music, two things that New Orleans is known for, go hand in hand.” Both headliners will explore the fundamentals of their arts, "from rhythms to improvisation. We'll encourage kids to get creative in the kitchen and the classroom," says Emeril. School administrators should contact Emeril'se Foundation at 504-212-2222, through www.emeril.org for details. Bus transportation is being provided by Hotard Coaches, Inc. Speaking of Emeril, a couple of weeks ago he became the first well-known chef to serve his food in space. New Orleans food, at that. Working with the NASA Space Food Lab, Emeril chose five recipes that were tested and prepared for delivery to the International Space Station. On August 10, they enjoyed Emeril’s Mardi Gras jambalaya, Kicked-up mashed potatoes with bacon, green beans with garlic, rice pudding, and mixed fruit. I will avoid the cliche that the food was out of this world. © 2006 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
