Emeril's And NOLA Will Re-Open In December.

A month ago, Emeril Lagasse announced that all of his operations in New Orleans would return, and now they've put out a schedule for most of it. Emeril's Homebase on St. Charles Avenue, the headquarters of all the famous chef's operations, has already re-opened, and is getting back to its recipe development, cookbook sales, store, and website chores.

The flagship restaurant will come back first. Emeril's, on Tchoupitoulas at Julia, will reopen on Thursday, December 8, with reservation lines opening the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. They'll be open for dinner only at first, Monday through Saturday. 528-9393.

NOLA, Emeril's casual, experimental restaurant in the French Quarter, turns its lights and stoves on less than a week later, on Tuesday, December 13. They too will only be serving dinner for now, Tuesday through Sunday. (Note that Sunday opening. I have seen only a very few restaurants including Sunday among their open days.)  522-6652.

As for Delmonico--my favorite of his New Orleans properties--it sustained roof leaks and other problems from the storm. I see the big gold sign is gone. They're not naming a re-opening date, except to say that it will be after the first of the year.

As I've noted in past editions, I think the attacks on Emeril for not showboating his way through town during the worst weeks of the disaster was heavy-handed at best. Getting his restaurants back open is incomparably more important, and he's doing that soon enough that Emeril's and NOLA will be among the first one-fifth of the restaurant population to come back. Meanwhile, he continues to raise money for the rebuilding effort around the country.
