Feast With The Stars For Parkway Partners
For a whole bunch of autumns, Parkway Partners has organized a delighful Sunday brunch as a fundraiser for its efforts to replant and beautify the city's streetsides, neutral grounds, and small parks. It hardly needs to be said that we need more of that these days than we did four years ago--but it was urgent even then.
The Feast With The Stars has food--traditionally provided by big hotel kitchens, although many independent restaurants will be there. I'm pleased to nottice a big increase in the number and quality of the restaurants. Here's the list:
- Andrea's
- Astor Crowne Plaza
- Bayona
- Cafe Rani
- Cafe Reconcile
- Chateau Bourbon
- Columns Hotel
- Creole Creamery
- Dooky Chase
- Eleven 79
- Hilton Riverside
- Houston's
- Jazzy Wings
- Kajun Kettle Foods
- K-Paul's Louisiana
Kitchen
- Lil Dizzy's
- Mariott 5 Fifty 5
- Martin Wine Cellar
- Portobello Catering
- Zea's
The people who serve you are well-known folks from many endeavors, but media people predominate--lots of television folks. I have been part of the program for thirteen years running. Some of the stars decorate birdhouses, which are then auctioned off, along with many other collectables, dinners, and other goodies. A jazz band plays throughout the whole party.
The event goes on at Gallier Hall, which sets up well for things like this. Lots of tables at which to sit and eat. (And drink: the price includes an open bar.) On your way out, you can pick up a complimentary plant or two for your garden, from the greenhouses of the Parkway and Parks Commission.

The Feast With The Stars this year is Sunday, October 19, 11:30 a.m. till 2 p.m. The price is $75; they also have whole tables for groups at special prices. More information and tickets can be had from , and you can also buy tickets at the door. I hope to see you there; this is always a really enjoyable event, one I never miss.
For the past few years, the Feast With The Stars has added an online silent auction to the auction at the event itself. I'll have some autopraphed copies of my cookbook available, and far better things will be there for near-stealing.
Feast With The Stars. Sunday, October 11, Gallier Hall, 545 St. Charles Avenue. 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. $75.
