Our Culinary Rebirth On The Food Network Tomorrow

Saturday, March 11, 8 p.m. Central
There's no question that the people of America care about New Orleans, and particularly how our unique food culture has weathered the storm. But the image of our city is out of focus in their eyes these days. They think either that this is a semi-destroyed hellhole of pestilence, or that everything is back to the way it was. Both ideas, of course, are wrong.

Neither idea is true, of course. This weekend the Food Network premiers a special, Bringing Back The Bayou, that brings good news (of which there is a great deal) to the rest country.

The host is--logically enough--Emeril Lagasse. Also included are many major local restaurateurs: Ella Brennan and Ti Martin of Commander's Palace, Leah Chase of Dooky Chase, Colette Guste from Antoine's, Chef Paul Prudhomme, Chef Lazone Randolph and Ted Brennan from Brennan's, and Galatoire's Melvin Rodrigue.

That's an interesting assortment, because it will include the perspective of some people whose restaurants were very severely damaged, but who are determined to put it all back together again.

Tell everybody you know around the country to watch this. I think it will air more than once.
