We have been following his completely unexpected battle against the neighbors of his new location, a former reception hall on Henry Clay at Laurel. He says: I would
like to thank you for your support of Gabrielle's return to the New
Orleans restaurant community. Mary and I can think of nothing more
painful than being forced to leave New Orleans in order to practice our
trade and make a living. We love this city and have spent a lot of time
and money on planning our comeback.
We had a small victory on Friday when our attorney successfully filed a petition to stop the angry neighbors from bringing us before the Board of Zoning Adjustments today. Now the whole mess is in civil district court and our hearing is on January 17. If you would like to help, please let Shelley Midura (New Orleans City Hall Council District A, SMidura@cityofno.com) know how you feel about our move to 438 Henry Clay Ave. We hope to see you and serve you as soon as possible! Sincerely, Chef Greg Sonnier I'm all for that. Why any neighborhood in New Orleans would object to having a restaurant of the calivber of Gabrielle nearby is a mystery to me. On the other hand, as my wife is fod of telling me, it may prove that some people don't care much about great dining. But I know you do. . . so. . . © 2006 Tom Fitzmorris.
