By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published September 3, 2007 Inter-Continental Sunday Brunch Returns Sunday brunch so powerfully connotes a buffet to some people that they confuse the words with one another. Buffets will never make it to the top of the food-excellence charts, but a few good buffets do exist. The one at the Inter-Continental has long been one of the good ones. It's also one of the biggest, most packed, and most expensive--largely because of its proximity to the Superdome. Reservations need to be made well in advance for Saints game days. To tie football even more securely into the brunch at the Inter-Continental, they're raffling off pairs of tickets to the game to people who come in for brunch. (I imagine there is some way you can enter this without having to dine there, and when I find out what that is I'll update this story.) One interesting addition to the mix is a continuing coking demo by Chef Joe St. Paul, who will be out there cooking fresh food throughout the brunch hours every week. The Inter-Continental brunch is not the first to break the $40 brunch barrier, but it's one of very few. The adult price is $41.50. Children under twelve are $21.50. I'm sure you know this already, but I get asked this question so often I'll answer it anyway: the standard tip at buffets is fifteen percent, but I think it should be more like twenty-five, because of the vastly greater amount of dishes brought to the table by the average buffet fan. The hotel has free valet parking for its guests while dining. Veranda. Hotel Inter-Continental, 444 St. Charles Ave. 585-4383. © 2007 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
