In fact, he's dead set against it--at least in the restaurant's 40-year tenancy on West Harrison Avenue. That area, of course, was in one of the two or three deepest (and widest and longest and most persistent) pools of flood water. "We haven't been able to get into all part of the building yet," he says. "Equipment in the kitchen started floating and when it landed blocked the doors. We're just walking away from it. I'll never return." He will, however, consider reopening the restaurant in some other part of the city--Harahan or River Ridge being two under consideration. I hope it does. The restaurant was a relic of an earlier era of dining in New Orleans, but its food was always very good. They had, for example, the best Italian baked oysters in town, and the best mild version of crawfish etouffee. I'll show up if it does, as will many others. © 2005 Tom Fitzmorris.
