And he told me what was already obvious: that the classy Italian restaurant would not reopen. For the past few weeks, there's been a sign on the building sayig that it shortly would open as a day spa, under the same name. But Valentino says he's leasing the building to those people. Valentino bought La Riviera about ten years ago from Chef Goffredo Fraccaro, who originally opened it in 1972, across the street from where it wound up. Goffredo slowly edged into retirement after that. Valentino says that he might open another restaurant someday, but he has no specific plans. © 2006 Tom Fitzmorris.
