By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published January 17, 2008 In Old Felix's Uptown Location La Thai Cuisine Moves To Uptown La Thai Cuisine, which has been on Metairie Road at Rosa for a good number of years, has moved to the corner of Prytania at Robert in Uptown. That's across the street from La Crepe Nanou and across the parking lot from the Upperline. Its coming adds another bit of diversity to an already terrific restaurant neighborhood. La Thai traces its lineage to the first Thai restaurant in the New Orleans area. In the 1980s, the Semiesuke family opened a restaurant called Mai Tai in Gretna. They later moved to Mid-City, where they renamed their restaurant Bangkok Cuisine. They sold that a few years ago, and opened and closed a few other restaurants/ La Thai has continued to be a popular and very good place to eat Thai food--as well as the unique dishes they did there that combined Thai and Creole-Cajun flavors. The new location has been the home of about a dozen other restaurants this publication has covered over the years, starting with a place called Cafe Trinity in 1977. Most recent of those is the Uptown branch of Felix's, which opened before its venerable French Quarter location returned from Katrinacation. It seemed to be doing okay, but apparently not well enough for the owners to keep it going. (The Iberville Street original is as busy as ever.) We understand that the reason for the move was that a bank wanted the Metairie Road space for an expension. Construction is already underway there.
