By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published February 15, 2007 Little Tokyo Opens In Former Chateaubriand Mid-City's restaurant community is booming again. On the heels of the recent reopening of Mandina's, and of new restaurants like Cafe Minh, Little Tokyo opened its third area location a few days ago in the beautiful restaurant that had been Chateaubriand Steakhouse. The damage there was so distressing that owners Gerard and Eveline Crozier not only threw in the towel and left town, but quit the restaurant business entirely. (I understand they're running a mail services business in Knoxville.) Little Tokyo has long been one of the top sushi purveyors hereabouts, even when its locations were franchises. (I haven't learned whether this one is one of those or owned by Yusuke Kawara, who opened the original on Causeway Blvd. in Metairie.) Little Tokyo is a great occupant of the sushi category in the widely various collection of ethnic restaurants up and down N. Carrollton Avenue. Elswhere in Mid-City, I hear that an Italian cafe called La Vita has opened in the former location of Gabrielle (3201 Esplanade Ave.). However, they don't have a listed number and I haven't been able to confirm this. Little Tokyo. 310 N Carrollton Ave. 485-5658. © 2007 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
