By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published September , 2008 First Time Since Katrina Pascal's Manale Has Lunch Again, Five Days Pascal's Manale had an unusual route back from the Big One three years ago. The floodwater wasn't disastrously deep--about two feet. But that's bad enough, and to get the place ready they covered the building with a canvas tent and filled it with gaseous bleach to eliminate the mold. That was almost three years ago. The only thing missing from the pre-storm Manale's was daily lunch. Just as Gustav was on the way, they resumed Monday and Tuesday lunches. After a pause for that storm, the old Creole-Italain establishment has the full five days' worth of lunches going. Lunch at Manale's shows off its neighborhood-restaurant quality. Red beans on Monday, of course. But also liver and onions with grits--a classic rarely found anywhere anymore. (It's Provimi veal liver, at that--the tenderest.) And the barbecue shrimp poor boy. ![]() ![]() ![]() Pascal’s Manale. Uptown: 1838 Napoleon Ave.. 504-895-4877. Creole Italian. © 2008 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
