Mandina's Opens In Mandeville

Mandina's, the apotheosis of New Orleans neighborhood restaurants, still has anothr two months before its familiar building on Canal Street reopens. But in the meantime, can you take a trip to Mandeville?

The Mandina's family has apparently found a partner interested in opening other locations of the place. There's been a Mandina's in Baton Rouge for many months now. But when we heard that there'd be another one in Mandeville, we discounted it as wishful thinking on somebody's part.

But, in fact, the Mandeville Mandina's opened--softly--last Friday. It's at 4300 La. 22, in the rear of the Pine Tree Plaza, a small strip mall about a quarter mile west of Causeway Blvd. (It's the same cluster in which D. Lamarque's and Hugh's Wine Cellar are located.)

The menu on the North Shore is the same as it was on Canal Street, including the daily specials, on the same days. They're serving lunch and dinner.

Meanwhile, the word on Mandina's original location is that a few more delays have turned up, and the reopening date has been pushed back to December. Cindy Mandina told us that there will be one major change in the old place: the two dining rooms will become just one bigger one, with the bar where the old back dining room used to be.

We continue to say that all Mid-City needs to get back to its former state is for Mandina's to reopen. Then all those flooding problems will be knocked out, chop-chop.
