The day Katrina struck was different for each one of us, but it was a day of high drama, total uncertainty, and life change. So call up some friends and go out to dinner for an evening of total recall. While you're at it, you'll be helping families in our area that are still struggling with what they had to go through in or after Katrina. Share Our Strength, the national effort by chefs, restaurateurs, and others concerned about hunger in America, is organizing a coast-to-coast dining event on Tuesday, August 29. No matter where you live (we have readers spread all over the country), there are restaurants that have signed onto the SOS program for the evening. Find a favorite restaurant near you and dine out that night. It will cost you no more than usual. In most cases, the restaurants are donating a percentage of their sales for the evening. In others, they're kicking in a fixed dollar amount for every special dinner or bottle of wine you buy. The list of restaurants participating, as well was what each restaurant will be doing that night, can be had by . It would be a good idea to make reservations, because it will probably be a very busy night. The kind of people who dine in restaurants of the caliber you'll find on the list are the same ones who care most about the recovery of our city. I'll see you somewhere the night of August 29! © 2006 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
