Let Attorneys Do The Cooking

The New Orleans Bar & Grille is an unusual event: all the cooks are legal professionals.

Twenty-one teams of amateur culinarians from local law firms will be at the Peristyle in City Park tomorrow, June 10, from three till seven in the afternoon. It's a competition, judged by a number of restaurateurs and other food-industry people. So the legal eagles put forth an unusual effort and lots of food.

It's open to anyone for the $20 admission fee at the door (I gather that you can also get tickets nailed down for $15 by calling the New Orleans Bar Association at 525-7453). The profits from the cookoff benefit the New Orleans Legal Assistance Corporation, a local non-profit that assists people who can't afford legal assistance with civil actions. Last year, almost $20,000 was raised for NOLAC through the Bar & Grille and a golf tournament.
