I heard a rumor yesterday that I have not been able to confirm with anyone, so we'll assume it's false. But I like the idea. The word is that Ruth's Chris will move its New Orleans location from Broad Street (where a host of problems are discouraging them from reopening) to the ground floor of the Lafayette Hotel, on St. Charles at Lafayette Square. That's where Mike's on the Avenue and Mike Ditka's were, along with quite a few other been-and-gone restaurants. Before the hurricane it was the very uninteresting Russian restaurant Rasputin. I have no information that Rasputin has closed permanently, although calls to its number are not answered. So, again, this is just a rumor. But what a great spot. The restaurant is the right size and in the right place to get the politicians and attorneys Ruth's Chris thrives on. The dining room is handsome and the view of Lafayette Square and Gallier Hall are pleasant. It's on the parade route. It's in the center city. As holy a place as Ruth's Chris on Broad is, I like this better. The only problem is parking, which dogs all the restaurants in that neighborhood. Keep your fingers crossed on this one. © 2005 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
