Featuring World's Longest Oyster Poor Boy
Oyster Jubilee This Saturday

The Oyster Jubilee returns to Bourbon Street this Saturday afternoon, and well it should. The bivalves are great, and the first running of the event last year was a lot of fun. No charge--just show up.

There's not a lot to it, really, but it's worth attending, if only to get a free piece of the World's Longest Oyster Loaf. Chefs from around town each make a section of the sandwich their way. Last year's ran the entire 300 block of Bourbon (in front of the Royal Sonesta Hotel, where the even will be this year as well). It required 5231 fried oysters and 340 feet of Leidenheimer's French bread. They're start cutting into it at 1 p.m.

The other event is an oyster-shucking race. It starts at P&J Oysters on Toulouse at Rampart. From there, the shuckers run around to various stations, where they must shuck a batch of oysters before moving on.

The oyster-eating competition, as it was last year, will be on a different day. It's now scheduled for the French Quarter Festival in April.
