A pupuseria is a restaurant where they make pupusas. Those are tortillas stuffed with pork, cheese, and green onions, then grilled in an order of three for a ridiculously low price; despite that, they're very satisfying and very good. Pupusas are the native dish of El Salvador, and are only one of many dishes from that country found on the menu here. The pupuseria has been a long time in opening, and it's many fans have asked me constantly about what its future will be. Simply this: they've renovated the building thoroughly and will be resume their pre-storm hours. As before, the menu will include not only Salvadoran specialties, but also a fairly substantial number of Mexican dishes. But some of the best food here always were the daily specials. And the desserts: don't miss the sweet corn tamales, which are unlike anything else I've ever had. Pupuseria Divino Corazon. 2300 Belle Chasse Hwy. 368-5724. © 2007 Tom Fitzmorris.
