Reveillon Dinners Return In December

The Reveillon didn't really happen last year, and there was some concern as to whether it would ever return. But it will--in thirty-three restaurants, no less, including more than ever outside the French Quarter.

The idea was hatched by Sandra Dartus with the French Quarter Festival about twenty years ago. Tourism has always been slow in New Orleans in December, particularly the latter half. So the old custom of serving grand feasts after Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve was dusted off, retooled, and promoted by many restaurants in the Quarter.

Reveillon dinners have much to recommend them. They run four or five course with a seasonal theme, and usually involved dishes not seen the rest of the year. And the prices for the entire dinner are very attractive. This year, they range between $22 and $55.

All the restaurants and their menus have just been posted on the French Quarter Festival's web site. Click here to go there. The menus go into force on December 1, and remain until December 23 or later (depending on the restaurant).
