Rum Dinner At Cafe Adelaide

Commander's Palace's reopening certainly has received the attentions of Ti Martin and Lally Brennan, but they seem to have developed a liking for Cafe Adelaide after allthe months they were on bivouac there. And they apparently want to keep things lively.

So this Thursday they're doing a rum-drink-paired dinner. This is not a bad idea; Trader Vic's and its local copy the Bali Ha'i became famous for their rum drinks. Which, because they often contain fruit juices, go pretty well with food.

The dinner is $85 per person inclusive of tax, tip, and all the cocktails, which will be made by Cafe Adelaide's delighful cocktail chef, Lu Brow. Che Danny Trace's menu looks great to us:

Lobster and Caviar
Lolla Rosa greens, avocado and Bacardi Solera charred lime vinaigrette
Cocktail: Original Mai Tai

Crispy Louisiana Soft Shell Crab
Pickled mirlitons, chicory greens and Scotch Bonnet pepper jelly
Cocktail: New Orleans Lime Daiquiri

Citrus Lacquered Red Snapper with Shrimp
Grand Isle Shrimp, sweet potato salad and charred orange bitters caramel
Cocktail: Crimean Cup a’la Marmora

Walker’s Wood Jerked Bob White Quail
Mango braised cabbage, smoked pork dressing and tobacco rum syrup
Cocktail: Royal Bermuda Yacht Club Cocktail

West Indies Rum Cake
Hawaiian Gold pineapple, drunken raisins and vanilla bean ice cream
Between the Sheets Cocktail

Cafe Adelaide. 300 Poydras Street, 504-595-3305.
