Satsumas? Satsumas!
It's hard to believe, but satsumas are in local markets and fruit stands around town. The ones I've seen are from Chauvin, but I've heard that they're also coming from Plaquemines Parish. This is incredible, given the beating both of those areas got from the hurricanes. I bought a couple of bags of them, and in their honor I'm making a satsuma cheesecake for a charity dinner I'm cheffing tomorrow. Eat 'em up! Not every good thing is gone!

For those who don't know what a satsuma is (we suddenly have many readers around the world, folks), they're similar to tangerines or mandarin oranges. They are the first citrus to ripen in the early fall, and they're so sweet that kids eat them like candy. They have a loose skin and sections that come apart easily, so they're fun to eat. Once you eat one, you'll eat seventeen.
