Archived Article By Tom Fitzmorris Originally published March 23, 2006 Click here for the current edition Shula's Steakhouse Opens Today On Canal Street Several months ago in this space, I reported that Shula's Steakhouse-- a chain started by the football coach and his son--would open in the space formerly occupied by Midi in the JW Marriott Hotel (formerly the Meridien) on Canal Street. Their prediction back then was for a February 1 opening, but that flew past. (No people understand construction delays more than Orleanians.) The new date is this Thursday. Shula's has all the masculine folderol of the other steakhouse chains, but positions itself a shade below the likes of Ruth's Chris and Morton's by serving not prime by Certified Angus Beef.
