Thanksgiving Restaurant Notes

As is usually the case, restaurants are only now releasing what their plans are for Thanksgiving Day service. This means that there are still plenty of reservations out there. I've gleaned some other facts:

1. The price for an adult Thanksgiving dinner in a first-class restaurant will likely be in the high $50s, plus tax, tip, and beverages. This is a substantial jump since last year, and reflects greater strength in the market as well as rising food prices.

2. Some of the restaurants are taking advantage of the demand on Thanksgiving to run enormous numbers through their facilities. To do that, they have to set what wil seeom to some like draconian rules. The starchiest of these so far are the restrictions set forth by the Hotel Inter-Continental (which usually puts out one of the better buffets on days like this). They have two seatings: 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Period. Thanksgiving dinner at 10:30 a.m.? What customer need does this serve? It's $55.

Yesterday, I updated our Thanksgiving page substantially. It has a list of all the restaurants of note that will be open that day, along with what I know about their menus and hours. Some restaurants are still making or changing plans, so check back.

Better still, make your reservations three weeks ago.

The Thanksgiving page also has all my favorite recipes for the big day. Here's the address for the page:
