But for some reason grocery shopping there has been difficult, as few stores have reopened since the hurricane. The most urgently-awaited store (at least for our readers) has been the gigantic Whole Food Market on Magazine Street at Arabella. That great adaptive re-use of the old bus barn reopened Wednesday, February 1 at nine in the morning. Unlike the Metairie Whole Food--which reopened weeks ago, but with less than half the store functioning as repairs were underway--the Uptown Whole Food Market will have almost everything in place. All departments will be stocked, which means particularly that the excellent seafood and produce sides of the store will be available for ambitious cooks. They say a few services won't be running, because they're waiting on equipment and personnel. But you'll find most of what you go to the Whole Paycheck Market for. That's a big piece of the puzzle put back in place. © 2006 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
