The Windsor Court's restaurants have been limping along with buffets since reopening in October. Much of this is due to the fact that nearly their entirely culinary team left town, including Chef Jonathan Wright. But they weren't going to be perfunctory forever. We learn that the luncheon buffet--talk of the town in August, before the bottom fell out of everything--will resume this Thursday. It is nothing like a standard hotel buffet, but a spectacular spread that looks like a loss leader to me. It opened at $15; the new price now is $21, but that still strikes me as a deal, if indeed the food hits the same mark it did before the storm. Anyway, it's nice to have another place to have lunch downtown. Especially since you can park free in the hotel. (Parking has been the great bugbear of downtown dining.) In other news from the Windsor Court says that it will introduce its new chef de cuisine Philippe Andreani today, as he returns the Grill Room to a la carte service after months with just a buffet. They add that the new style of the restaurant will be dress-down, and encourage leaving the ties off. I like that idea not. I'll be there only in jacket and tie. The chef doesn't have a menu assembled yet. That tells me that perhaps it's a good idea to wait this one out for a few weeks. Meanwhile, the new general manager of the hotel might hear our plea that they should change the name of the famous room back to what it was: the Grill Room. Now that the guy who made the change is gone. 300 Gravier, 522-1994. © 2006 Tom Fitzmorris. All rights reserved. news@nomenu.com |
