The block of Carrollton at St. Charles is so dominated by the reputation of the Camellia Grill that every other place on the block in its direction. Hence the menu at the Trolley Stop, which offers breakfasts, sandwiches, and plate specials of the kind you'd get two doors away at the CG, but not quite as good. There is, however, a reason to keep this place in the back of your mind. First among them is that they serve real food (as in cooked to order) 24 hours, seven days. It gets insanely busy in the wee hours on weekends, and service bogs down, but I expect that from any we-never-close place. Second, you sit at tables on chairs here, which makes it more comfortable for lingering over a cup of coffee. And, if you specify that you don't want the omelette crispy brown, the kitchen does a decent job. Never brilliant--they could make a major improvement to their hamburger, for example. But never horrible, either. And there's a place for a cafe like that, especially when nothing else is open.
